Thomas C. Hindman lived here from 1833 to 1844. An Arkansas congressman and general, he was a veteran of the War with Mexico, was elected to U.S. Congress in 1858 and 1860, served in the Trans-Mississippi Department of the C.S.A. as a brigadier general from 1861 to 1862, and served with the Army of Tennessee from 1862 to 1865.
