Surry County citizens who gave their lives while serving their country between 1941 and 1975 are honored across World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, and the dead of Operation Enduring Freedom are also named. The memorial closes with Jefferson Davis's words: "We have entered upon the career of independence. And it must be inflexibly pursued."
