Maryland was founded as a Proprietary Colony by Lord Baltimore on March 25, 1634. Religious toleration was established by Act of Assembly in 1649. The Mason-Dixon Line was surveyed from 1763 to 1767. The British Stamp Act was repudiated in 1765. The "Peggy Stewart" Tea Party took place in Annapolis in 1773. Maryland signed the Declaration of Independence on July 3, 1776.
