The Literary Landmarks program encourages recognition of historic literary sites. The Literary Landmarks Association was founded in 1986. In 1989, the Literary Landmarks project became an official Friends of Libraries USA committee program, and it continues under United for Libraries, the division of ALA created by the joining of FOLUSA and ALTA. Dedications have included homes of famous writers, libraries and museum collections, literary scenes, and more.
