At 1:00 p.m. General Nathan Bedford Forrest's cavalry attacked the federal stockade next to the railroad. In the short but fierce struggle, Forrest's command suffered 180 casualties. Twelve Confederates were buried on the battlefield. Confederate forces withdrew and destroyed railroad bridges between Guest Hollow and McMinnville.
