Five hijackers crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the World Trade Center's North Tower at 8:46 a.m. on September 11th 2001. The tower burned for 102 minutes and collapsed at 10:28 a.m. When it collapsed, debris damaged the nearby 7 World Trade Center building and started fires. At or above the point of impact, 1,355 people were trapped and died of smoke inhalation; many others fell or jumped from the tower to escape the smoke and flames or were killed in the building's eventual collapse.
