Founded in 2015 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the Hmong Museum became the first museum in the United States devoted exclusively to preserving and teaching Hmong history, arts, and culture. It began through partnerships and community programs before opening a permanent gallery space in 2023. Its exhibitions and events center on Hmong history, including families who came to Minnesota as refugees after 1975, the Secret War in Laos, migration, cultural continuity, and life in the United States. Through historical documentation, storytelling, youth media training, oral histories, paj ntaub story cloths, and digital Story Mapping, it preserves community memory and shares Hmong experiences across generations.
