This brick building, completed in 1889 after an earlier building was destroyed by fire, became the third home of the Somerset Lodge of the Independent Order of Oddfellows #438, originally established in 1851. It exhibits many features of the Italianate style, including tall, narrow arched windows crowned with rusticated stone and keystones, a continuous sandstone sill, a bank of incised brickwork, and a prominent bracketed cornice. The first floor originally housed the Somerset Post Office and later a succession of retail stores. Its storeroom has a pressed metal ceiling and the entrance is marked by a tile loggia. Another entrance at the south end, identified by the I.O.O.F. symbol in leaded stained glass, leads to the second floor and the lodge rooms.
