Vincent A. Kimberlin served in World War II as a company commander in Company K, 152nd Infantry, 38th Infantry Division, was wounded in the Philippine Islands on May 16, 1945, and later served in Korea as commander of Tank Company, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, where he was wounded on May 6, 1952. He received the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism near Olongapo, Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 12 February 1945. After seizing a heavily fortified ridge in the ZigZag Pass area, he was ordered to hold the position through the night and defend it against enemy counterattack. At dusk, while his men were digging in, two heavy machine guns opened fire from enemy soldiers who had infiltrated near their position. In the limited visibility, the guns could not be seen, many casualties resulted, and his company was pinned to the ground. Recognizing the need for bold action, Kimberlin seized an automatic rifle and, with complete disregard for his own safety, advanced near one of the guns and shot both the gunner and a second enemy who took his place. Four more enemy in succession attempted to man the gun, and each was killed in the same manner. He then captured the gun, prevented many casualties among his men, inspired them to defeat the enemy, capture the other gun, and hold their position. His home address was RFD 2, Wilson, Oklahoma. He was also named Citizen of the Year in 1989 and B and PW Man of the Year in 1984.
