The Wheeler-Thanhauser Orchid Collection and Species Bank is a botanical collection and seed bank in Muncie, Indiana, within the 17-acre Christy Woods at Ball State University. Donated in 1971 by Goldie Wheeler, the collection grew into one of Christy Woods' notable attractions. In 2014, the university opened the Dr. Joe and Alice Rinard Orchid Greenhouse, a $1.35 million, 3,600-square-foot facility built to house it, funded largely by Joe Rinard and named for him and his wife. The greenhouse contains more than 2,000 orchids, other tropical plants, and tropical and animal exhibits, serving both horticultural and educational purposes with free public access.
