Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge spans non-contiguous sites along 362 miles of the Ohio River, with most of its acreage in West Virginia and additional islands in Pennsylvania and Kentucky. Established in 1990, it protects 3,354 acres of land and underwater habitat across twenty-two islands and four mainland properties. Headquartered in Williamstown, West Virginia, the refuge follows the river corridor in an unusually linear pattern rather than forming a single continuous park. Its significance lies in conserving island, shoreline, and aquatic environments along the Ohio River.
