The Ochopee area was founded in 1928 as a tomato farming community and included a prosperous town of homes, a packing house, and a general store with a Post Office established in 1932. This building was originally a cattle barn and then became a bulk oil business. The filling station next door is said to be the first concrete-block building in Collier County. The restaurant opened in 1987, serving local items and displaying artwork as well as postcards sent by well-wishers from around the world.
