New Providence Presbyterian Church was the birthplace of the Synod of Virginia in 1788 and of Women of the Church, Presbyterian Church U.S.A., in 1812. It was one of the first churches in America to have a Sunday School and an adjacent cemetery. It has been in continuous use since the 1700s.
