Blue River Township was surveyed in August 1820 by John Hendricks and developed through early trails, cabins, roads, cemeteries, mills, churches, railroads, a dam, and an inter-urban line. Among its early features were Berry Trail in 1819; the John Campbell Cabin at Edinburg in 1820; the Elisha Adams Cabin at Amity in 1821; Mauxferry Road and Freeman Cemetery in 1823; Thompson Mills from 1825 to 1957; Hamner School and Cemetery at Amity in 1826; Jollity Church in 1828; Nancy Barnett Grave, and Collier Mill and Brick Yard in 1831; Foster-Furnas Mill in 1832; Pisgah Churches in 1833; Edinburg Christian Church in 1834; Runkle Inn in 1840; the Madison-Indianapolis Railroad in 1845; the Edinburg-Shelbyville Railroad in 1849; Rest Haven Cemetery in 1852; Blue River Dam in 1884; and the inter-urban from 1902 to 1941.
