Palisade Canyon lies along the Humboldt River in northern Eureka County, Nevada, between the vicinity of State Route 278 south-southwest of Carlin and an area near State Route 306 west of Beowawe. It is significant for its position on the Humboldt, Nevada’s longest river, which never reaches the sea but gradually loses water before ending in the Humboldt Sink. United States Geological Survey stream-gauge measurements identify Palisade Canyon as the point where the river’s flow stops increasing and begins to decline. The canyon’s name arose from a fancied resemblance to the Palisades on the Hudson River.
