On this site stood one of the first rest-over businesses in the Virgin Valley, where an early adobe brick house served as a small grocery store, a separate wash house provided shower and laundry facilities, and a way station campground accommodated freighters and travelers. Hay was also sold to people traveling by horse-drawn wagons and buggies. In 2003, the City of Mesquite broke ground here to build the Mesquite Fine Arts Center as a center of activity for the fine arts in the Virgin Valley, and its award-winning design became a cultural milestone for the community.
