Built around 1890 by the Carnes family, who owned a large farm north of Arlington, this building first housed a grocery established by Hal Carnes. In 1917 Clarence Brockwell bought it and, while continuing the grocery, also ran it as a skating rink on Saturday nights. Sam Burkhart purchased the store in 1918, but after entering military service in World War I he sold it to Jasper Brockwell. Louis Brockwell recalled the Saturday night Jasper Brockwell made Burkhart an offer, and by the following Monday Jasper had moved into the grocery, which he operated until his death in 1942. That year S.Y. Wilson & Co. acquired the building, and after World War II Jack Wilson, son of Charles R. Wilson, returned from service and equipped it as a laundry mat. For the last 35 years, the store served as a warehouse for S.Y. Wilson, Inc.
