Capt. Rezin Beall, later a brigadier general in the Flying Camp, was wounded here while repulsing British efforts to cross to the mainland from St. George's Island. Fighting continued until July 29, when Lord Dunmore, commanding 72 marauding British vessels on the Potomac River, was also wounded here. Offshore, five British ships were disabled.
