Fountain Geyser, in Yellowstone National Park’s Lower Geyser Basin at the Fountain Paint Pots thermal area, is the leading feature of its local geyser group and one of the park area’s most dependable active thermal features. This fountain-type geyser sends bursts as high as 80 feet, with many eruptions producing jets 40 to 50 feet tall. Eruptions usually begin every 4.5 to 6 hours, though intervals can occasionally lengthen to 11 or 12 hours, and a typical eruption lasts about 30 minutes. It is especially notable for its consistency, though it sometimes enters a wild phase of lower jets that can continue for up to two weeks.
