The Upcountry History Museum in Greenville, South Carolina, presents the history of fifteen Upcountry counties from the early eighteenth century to the present, covering more than three centuries of regional development. Located on Greenville’s Heritage Green and operated by Furman University, it opened in September 2007. Its exhibitions, designed by Christopher Chadbourne and Associates, emphasize technology and immersive sensory experiences rather than relying mainly on artifacts. In 2015 it became a Smithsonian affiliate, connecting it to a major national museum network. Its first Smithsonian exhibition was Searching for the Seventies: The DOCUMERICA Photography Project.
