Beginning in 1858, Benedictine monks from St. Cloud friory periodically came on horseback to celebrate mass and sacraments in the homes of early settlers. In 1869, the first church was built on land given by Michael and Winifred McGraw and Lewis and Mary Maher. Dedicated on January 4, 1870, the church was destroyed by fire on November 23, 1880. A second frame church was built in 1889, and the parish was incorporated on January 17, 1896. From 1922 to 1937, the church was unused. It reopened and was served by the Church of Our Lady, Manannah from 1937 to 1960, by St. Anastasia, Hutchinson from 1960 to 1965, and by St. Gertrudes, Forest City until the mission closed in 1971. The church building was taken down in 1985.
