Windsor is the ancient Woodford Estate, where Governor Spotswood and the Knights of the Golden Horseshoe stopped on their way to the mountains in August 1716. General William Woodford was born here on October 6, 1734. He defeated Governor Lord Dunmore at the Great Bridge in December 1775 and took an important part in the Revolutionary War.
