Fitzhugh once had seven mounds and a linear earthen ridge leading to the site from the west, but only two mounds remain. The largest is square with a flat top and is ten feet tall and one hundred fifty by one hundred fifty feet at the base. The smaller mound is four feet tall and two hundred feet in diameter at its circular base. Indians built the mounds around AD 1400.
