George Read was born September 18, 1733, and died September 21, 1798. He was a member of the Congress of the Revolution, the convention that framed the Constitution of the United States, and the first senate under it. He served as Judge of Admiralty, President and Chief Justice of Delaware, and was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. His house was destroyed by fire in April 1824.
