Greenwood Stage Station was the second stop on the Sidney–Black Hills Trail, carrying travelers north from Fort Sidney toward the Black Hills gold fields in South Dakota. In rural Morrill County, Nebraska, it served as a hotel, restaurant, and stable, and provided fresh horses for stagecoaches, making it an important support point for the movement of people and freight to the mining districts. The station no longer stands and survives as an archaeological site. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012, it is valued as one of the few remaining trail stations with surviving structural and artifactual remains and for its potential to yield further historical information.
