Harriet Smith's two-story frame residence stood in the center of this property. Her husband, Ed, was cashier of the Wayne County Bank and a partner in the Smith-Rhodes Mercantile Company. He died in 1926, and afterward Mrs. Smith occasionally rented rooms to the public. The house was known for its unique ornamental iron fence.
