Buckingham Courthouse was designed by Thomas Jefferson in 1821, burned in 1869, and rebuilt in 1878. Its exterior follows Jefferson’s plan, while the interior was redesigned. A copy of the original plan and specifications is on display in the courthouse. It was registered in 1969 as a National and Virginia Historic Landmark and was renovated in 1976.
