R. Aubrey Harley, born 1908 and died 1974, was honored in 1979 as a dedicated public servant. He served as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from Newberry County from 1939 to 1948, as a member of the South Carolina Highway Commission from 1951 to 1955 and vice chairman from 1954 to 1955, and as a member of the South Carolina Senate from 1957 to 1960. He was one of the originators of the Farm-to-Market highway legislation from which many South Carolinians benefited.
