The building began as the home of Cornelius Gilmore in 1830, was associated in the mid-1800s with land registrar Thomas Gillespie, became Fred Petersilge's Cafe and Saloon in 1914, the New York Restaurant in 1923, the York Cafe operated by brothers Gus and Harty Vallas from 1937 to 1957, Ed Koch's Family Store in 1957, Ray's Pizza in 1967, Howie's Pizza in 1974, and from 1982 to the present has housed Robert Pelenhus Professional Office Bldg.
