Thomas Clark Rye was born June 2, 1863, in a log cabin about 1/2 mile north, studied law at Charlotte, and later began practice at Camden. He served as Attorney General of the 13th Judicial District from 1908 to 1912 and was the last Tennessee governor to be elected by a convention. Inaugurated Jan. 17, 1915, he served two terms and was later Chancellor of the 8th Division. He died Sept. 12, 1953, and is buried in Paris.
