The John Gillin Residence in Dallas, Texas, is Frank Lloyd Wright’s only residential project in the city and a notable example of his late domestic work in Texas. Conceived in 1950 and built in 1958 for oilman, geophysicist, and inventor John Gillin, the house reflects an unusually close collaboration between architect and client, with Gillin shaping details from door hardware to kitchenettes and the diving board support. This expansive single-story Usonian design centers on a hexagonal core and angular fireplace, with three wings extending outward. Its sandstone walls, horizontal windows, and copper-domed living room were designed for the prairie climate and broad creekside site.
