Stanislaus Peak is a prominent mountain near Sonora Pass in California’s Sierra Nevada, set in the Carson–Iceberg Wilderness of Stanislaus National Forest. Rising in a high country landscape of open ridges, volcanic forms, and broad alpine views, it is an ancient volcanic cone of andesite intrusion. A granite outcropping near its base, formed between the Late Triassic and Late Cretaceous, connects it to much older central Sierra bedrock seen in places such as Yosemite National Park and the Emigrant Wilderness. The striking contrast between volcanic cone and exposed granite helps define the mountain’s significance. It is also a hiking destination, combining a maintained trail with a short, easy off-trail scramble to the summit.
