Eddy Pennell Hawkins, a member of a pioneer Ellis County family, built the first two rooms of this home soon after he married Netta Lewis Carson in 1878. In 1900 he enlarged it to its present three-story form, reflecting his position as a successful businessman and civic leader. The Late Victorian house shows Queen Anne and Shingle style influences and features beveled window glass, neo-classical porch details, and a shingled second story.
