Hardeeville Methodist Church was organized and founded before the Civil War. Its present site was given to the trustees in 1860 by Margaret Saussy Jones, and the present framed sanctuary was completed soon afterward. Services have been held in this building ever since. Church tradition holds that it was used as a hospital during the Civil War at the time of General Sherman’s March to the Sea. For more than 150 years, this Methodist church has played a significant role in the development of the community and intends to continue doing so.
