Living Coast Discovery Center in Chula Vista, California, is a nature center, public aquarium, and zoo within the Sweetwater Marsh Unit of the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge. Opened in 1987 as the Chula Vista Nature Interpretive Center and renamed after becoming an independent nonprofit in 2010, it focuses on the native plants and animals of Southern California and San Diego Bay. Its aquariums, aviaries, animal enclosures, gardens, and trails present coastal habitats through wildlife exhibits and outdoor access. With science and environmental programs that bring more than 15,000 schoolchildren each year, it is a major regional center for ecological education.
