On Saturday, June 17, 1775, Abigail Adams stood here with her son John Quincy Adams, then seven years old, and watched the smoke of burning Charlestown while listening to the guns of Bunker Hill. The next day she wrote, “The day, perhaps the decisive day is come on which the fate of America depends. My bursting heart must find vent at my pen.”
