George Taylor, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, lived here. He was appointed a delegate to the Continental Congress in July 1776. In the provincial Assembly, to which he was elected in 1764, he opposed a royal government. He was an ironmaster. The house was built in 1768 and is a National Historic Landmark.
