Riegelsville volunteers buried at Riegelsville Cemetery enlisted on August 8, 1862, in Company C of the 128th Pennsylvania Volunteers and all fought at the Battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862. Private John B. Kerbaugh was killed, Private Jonas Nixon died on October 4, 1862, from wounds, and Private Frederick Crouse was wounded, returned, and became the town's first postmaster.
