Donald S. Reshetar, a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, graduated from Minneapolis South High School in 1947, earned a bachelor's degree from Augustana College in 1951 and a master's degree from Northern State University in 1958, began his teaching and coaching career in 1951 at Egan, South Dakota, served two years as a Navy officer during the Korean War, then returned to become head football coach for the Webster Bearcats, later worked with the Mitchell Kernels, and in 1960 became head football coach for the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles, a position he held through the 1974 season. In 1962 he also became athletic director for the Aberdeen Public School and held that role for twenty-two years. His accomplishments included an undefeated season and a Northeast Conference football championship with the Webster Bearcats, two Eastern South Dakota Conference football championships with the Golden Eagles, and a career record of 105-50-5. He also served as director of the Aberdeen Relays for twenty-three years and as a starter at the South Dakota High School Activities Association State Track and Field meet for thirteen years. His honors included the 1965 Governor's Ambassador Award, service as president of the Eastern South Dakota Conference and president of the South Dakota Athletic Director's Association, recognition as the 1982 South Dakota Athletic Director of the Year, the 1982 ESD Conference Service Award, the South Dakota High School Activities Association Distinguished Service Award in 1989, and induction into the Augustana College Athletic Hall of Fame, South Dakota Football Coaches Hall of Fame, South Dakota High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and South Dakota Interscholastic Administrator's Hall of Fame. He and his wife Rosemary had four children: Judy, Janice, Don, Jr., and Tom.
