The Civil War earthworks at Tallahatchie Crossing are a surviving Union field fortification in Mississippi and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. On federal land along the north bank of the Little Tallahatchie River, the site preserves a line of defenses built in late 1862 during Union operations through north Mississippi toward Oxford and Vicksburg. These works were intended to protect the Mississippi Central Railroad and the Union supply base at Holly Springs by securing this river crossing. The remains include eight parapets for cannon positions and infantry trenches, offering important evidence of how temporary wartime defenses were arranged to control transportation routes and supplies.
