Bullfrog Hills is a small mountain range in southwestern Nevada’s Mojave Desert, west of Beatty and near the Amargosa River, Death Valley, and several surrounding desert landscapes. Its highest point is Sawtooth Mountain at 6,005 feet. The range is closely tied to the region’s mining past: its name came from ore thought to resemble the color of a bullfrog, and it contained the historic Rhyolite mining district and town as well as the Bullfrog mining district. The original Bullfrog Mine opened on Bullfrog Mountain’s south flank. Rail lines later linked this remote range to the boom years of desert mining.
