Austin Creek State Recreation Area is a California state park in Sonoma County adjoining Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve and protecting a relatively isolated backcountry landscape. Within its 5,927 acres, terrain rises from about 150 to 1,500 feet, creating diverse habitats that range from redwood forest and riparian corridors to chaparral, meadows, grassy hillsides, oak woodlands, and rocky high points with occasional Pacific views. About 20 miles of trails and camping provide access to this varied setting, which supports fish, amphibians, many bird species, and larger mammals. The park also contains the remains of Pond Farm, a 1940s artists' colony, and remained open after closure threats in 2008 and 2012 through nonprofit operation.
