Arlington was originally inhabited by the Chickasaw Indians until 1818 when the land was ceded to the United States. In 1856, the community grew to around 200 and a depot was constructed on land donated by General Samuel J. Hays to ship cotton. The town was named Haysville until 1883 when it was renamed Arlington. Throughout its history, Arlington has preserved its landmarks such as the Rachel H.K. Burrows Museum and Depot Square while blending old and new. The original train depot, Withe Depot, was built in the early 1860s and served as the center of business life in Arlington. The depot was demolished in 1971 and a replica was built in 2003, which now serves as the Arlington Senior Citizens Center. Today, Arlington continues to preserve its history while providing modern conveniences to its citizens.
