The University of Kentucky Arboretum is a one hundred-acre botanical garden in Lexington that serves as Kentucky’s state botanical garden and a public green space focused on the state’s flora. Created in 1991 on former College of Agriculture land, it developed through long-term removal of invasive plants and an emphasis on native landscapes. Its collections include more than 1,200 native species, and features such as the Walk Across Kentucky evoke the state’s seven regional landscapes. The site also includes demonstration and children’s gardens, supports outdoor education and home gardening programs, and continues a longer history of woodland research and environmental stewardship.
