Men and women from the Arcola area serving in the Armed Forces of the United States of America gave their lives to save the lives and property of others, and the community honors their memory with deep appreciation for the liberty it enjoys. Their families endured days, weeks, months, and even years waiting for good news, and when only bad news came, they suffered anguish, grief, and lasting pain. Honor is also given to those who returned home crippled and scarred for the rest of their lives, and to the many men and women who served their country in the past and will in the future. In this cemetery, lives are commemorated, deaths are recorded, memories are made tangible, families are reunited, reverence is bestowed, respect is accorded, love is undisguised, heritage is enriched, and devotion, pride, and remembrance are preserved as a perpetual record of the past and a source of comfort to the living.
