Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles, designed by Frank Gehry and opened in 2003, became the fourth hall of the Los Angeles Music Center and the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Los Angeles Master Chorale. Begun after Lillian Disney’s 1987 gift honoring Walt Disney, the project faced years of delays, redesign, and fundraising challenges before construction finally advanced. Its stainless steel exterior, bold forms, and acoustically admired auditorium made it one of Gehry’s best-known works. The hall also overcame early glare problems from reflective panels and gained a signature concert organ, helping make it a major performance venue and a defining landmark on Grand Avenue.
