Milton S. Hershey personally purchased this American elk statue in May 1913 for Hersheypark. Constructed from white metal, it was bought from the J.L. Mott Iron Works of New York for $265.00. The elk was part of the early park that Mr. Hershey began for his employees and local residents to enjoy. It is approximately 10 feet high from its antlers to its hoofs and weighs about 480 pounds. The antlers were originally made of white metal, but were changed to real elk antlers in 1980. The statue first stood at the original main entrance of Hersheypark near the Kissing Tower, and in May 1978 it was moved to its present location with the opening of ZooAmerica North American Wildlife Park.
