The Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum at the University of Texas at Austin serves as the federally run presidential library for Lyndon B. Johnson, combining a major public museum with an archive of 45 million pages of documents and other records. Planned after Johnson’s 1964 election and formalized in 1966, it was built largely with public funding on university land and dedicated in 1971. Designed by Gordon Bunshaft and R. Max Brooks, the travertine-clad building includes a replica of Johnson’s Oval Office and other exhibits tied to his life and presidency. It has also hosted significant public observances and remains a central place for studying Johnson’s era.
