These trees and this circular plot were dedicated as Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Circle in honor of the Vineland heroes who lost their lives in the World War from 1917 to 1919. Established under the auspices of the Diamond Social Club, the City Beautiful Committee, and the Park and Shade Tree Commission, and financed by popular subscription approved and sanctioned by the City Commissioners, it honored a free and liberty loving people whose iron will won the victory. Their valor preserved the sacred rights of humanity, and they made the supreme sacrifice so that all peoples might enjoy the peaceful pursuits of life, liberty and happiness. They answered the call gallantly, fought and won the victory, and were remembered as worthy sons of heroic sires who won American liberty. It was dedicated May 30, 1919.
