This early permanent settlement in the Big Sandy Valley was named for Revolutionary War veteran William Robert Leslie (1729-1802). Leslie moved to this site at John’s Creek circa 1790. His son Robert joined him shortly before his father’s death. William and Robert are buried in separate plots on the original settlement site.
